TRAFFIC & PARKING

The marathon was developed as a way to help bring the City together. Newport News is a great city with much diversity and many assets. Coincidentally the geography of the city is ideal for a marathon. This is a perfect way for our citizens to celebrate all that is good in our city.

It is with that hope and spirit that we envision the neighborhoods that interact with the race route to come out and support all that the health expo, marathon and celebration has to offer. The City also realizes that the route might pose some inconveniences for our residents. Although staff is working hard to minimize the impacts, we also know impacts will be felt. As such we are providing a breakdown of road closures, lane closures and intersection blockages to help our citizens stay informed and plan their travels accordingly.

Race Day Shuttle Schedule

Shuttle busses will be used to transport participants from the finish to the start line and the various marathon relay exchange zones. Shuttles will then be used to transport runners from the marathon relay exchange zones back to the finish. We encourage all runners to take the shuttle buses to avoid any traffic delays on race morning. All exchange zones are at schools which are open for all runners while waiting for their teammate.

Marathon and Marathon Relay Leg 1 Shuttles:

Hampton Roads Transit shuttle buses will be used to transport runners to the start line, and will run from 5AM-6AM, leaving continuously as buses fill up. We encourage all runners to arrive as early as 4:30AM to not be rushed on race morning. The last shuttle will leave for the start line at 6:15AM. Shuttle busses will be located on 23rd St. and West Avenue in downtown Newport News.
