DATE: MARCH 2, 2025 | TIME: 7:00AM


The Newport News One City Marathon is a point-to-point marathon distance road race that spans the entire length of Newport News, Virginia. The course is full of scenic views of the Virginia peninsula’s parks and water ways, historical neighborhoods, and a finish in the downtown area that is home to Newport News Shipbuilding, the sole provider of United States aircraft carriers.


After crossing the finish line, runners can head to “The Yard District” and relive the day’s highlights with friends at the One City Celebration.


PACE REQUIREMENTS

The Newport News One City Marathon has a 7-hour time limit. This translates into a 16:00 minute per mile pace requirement for participants. Runners must reach the following checkpoints at the times listed or they will be given the option to get on a shuttle and be shuttled to the Finish Line or move to the sidewalk and finish the race on their own.


#1 – Mile 6.5 at 8:45AM

#2 – Mile 13.1 at 10:30AM

#3 – Mile 18 at 11:45AM

#4 – Mile 23 at 1:10PM



THE ONE CITY MARATHON IS A BOSTON QUALIFYING RACE


The One City Marathon had an 18% qualifying rate in 2024 and ranks in the top 20 for Boston Qualifying events according to www.marathonguide.com.


The Newport News One City Marathon has a 7-hour time limit (16:00/mile pace)

COURSE INFORMATION


The One City Marathon is a USA Track & Field Certified Course and Boston Qualifier. The USATF race course certification number is VA22003RT.

Water Stations

 Water stations will be located approximately every two miles along the marathon route. Huma Gels will be provided at Water Station #7 (Mile 14) and #10 (Mile 20). Gatorade will be provided at every other Water Station, beginning with Water Station #2.

MARATHON FAST FACTS

Age Requirement

All runners must be at least 18 years old by race day to run the marathon. There are no age requirements for the Maritime 5K or Nautical Mile Fun Run.

Pace Requirement

The One City Marathon has a 7-hour time limit.

Packet Pick-Up

Participants must attend packet pick-up to receive their bib and race shirt. If you are picking up a packet for another runner you must fill out and bring this authorization form. Packets MUST be picked up in advance. There is NO race day packet pickup.

Finisher Items

Finisher medals will be distributed to finishers during the race. None of these items will be mailed to registrants who did not participate.

PACE TEAMS

Pace Teams are comprised of experienced marathon runners who help others achieve their performance goals. You do not need to sign up in advance to run with a pacer on race day.

GEAR CHECK

Gear check for the Newport News One City Marathon will be located at the start area at Newport News Park. Following the start of the marathon, the gear check vehicle will transport all of the checked items to the finish to be picked up by participants upon completing the race. Participants must use the clear bag provided to them by race organizers. No exceptions will be made.
